Photographs by Puerto Rican artist Eduardo Lalo at The Barn, St John's College

Eduardo Lalo

This exhibition Deudos, comprised of around 30 black-and-white photographs, is the work of Puerto Rican author and artist Eduardo Lalo (b. 1960). Lalo’s photographic work depicts different scenes of vulnerability in contemporary Puerto Rico, where citizens of this US commonwealth have been suffering the effects of a crippling debt crisis that has worsened even more in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2016.

Eduardo Lalo is professor of literature in the School of General Studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus. During Trinity Term 2019, Lalo will be in Oxford as a TORCH Global South Visiting Professor.
