PRAN - Gallery 221@HCC announces upcoming exhibition: Roberto Márquez: Antigua Colonia, Chistes Viejos with Artist Reception the next Wednesday, October 10, 5-8pm.

Working primarily with paint and ceramics, Roberto Márquez explores humor in a socio-political context, drawing influence from his own perspective and experience as an artist from a country that has endured a long history of colonization. Antigua Colonia, Chistes Viejos—translated as Old Colony, Old Jokes—presents a variety of objects that question the canon of art through layers of irony and wit informed by Márquez’s Latinx identity. Márquez (b. 1982, San Juan, Puerto Rico) earned his BFA from the School of Fine Arts in Puerto Rico and his MFA from the University of South Florida, where he is now an adjunct professor.
